Found Horse
Sometimes I just need to LAUGH!
Bees, Bee Pollen, and Being Sick...
I've heard a lot about the benefits of bee pollen, how it helps with allergies and boosts your immune system, etc. I decided to buy some and see if it will help my family. I was literally standing in the parking lot of Sprouts unloading Jackson and Lucy from the car so I could purchase my bee pollen to improve my families health when the school nurse called to tell me Harrison was sick and I needed to pick him up. Talk about irony. So I hurry into Sprouts, buy my bee pollen pill then rush to the school to pick up my sick child. While driving and thinking about the irony of my situation I got an image in my mind of my husband with a bee stuck to his lip. You may laugh now because I did to... So a few years ago Damon and I went to the lake with some of his brothers and sisters. We were having a good time water skiing and wake boarding when Damon takes a drink from his soda and proceeds to freak out. A bee had flown into his pop can and when he took a drink the bee did what bees do and stung him, right on the lip. Not only was he stung but the bee was stuck to his lip! We did get the bee off and the swelling wasn't too bad. But the image of Damon with a bee hanging from his lip was enough to make me laugh out loud, multiple times through out my day.

Sing a Song
When I just want to scream out "HARRISON!!!" I turn it into an opera song. It's amazing how they respond to my silly songs and it's a great release for me.
I discovered this while teaching preschool (no worries, I only scream at MY children during preschool. ha ha). I sing "Here We are Together" while transitioning from one activity to another. If they are having a hard time following directions I will add some directions into the song. For example, "Here we are together, together, together. Oh here we are together in our preschool class. Please sit down on your bottoms and keep your hands to yourselves. Oh here we are together in our preschool class."
Most of the time I will make up my own random tune and sometimes I will use songs they are familiar with like Dora or Backyardigans. I don't know why but these silly songs sometimes save me from a lot of anger and it makes my kids listen.
So next time you want to scream, just sing!

Me Time
As soon as I put my kids to bed I get my pajamas on, wash my face, brush my teeth and take my time doing it. It's perfect, nobody interupts me because the kids are in bed and Damon is usually "vegging". So I take a minute to slow down and enjoy being alone. When I'm done I do the dishes, pick up the house, and fold a little bit of laundry without feeling angry!

Want cleaner floors?
I don't know if it's where I live or my house isn't sealed very well or maybe it's the 3 kids, 2 dogs and cat that roam my house but even after I mop my floors always feel gritty. So I wear shoes, problem almost solved.

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies
3/4 cup crisco
1 1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 T. milk
1 T. vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cup flour (or gf flour, add a little xanthum gum)
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)
Heat oven to 375. Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Beat egg into creamed mixture. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans. Drop tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake one sheet at a time. 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies or 11-13 minutes for crisp cookies.
It's a great recipe to double or triple and freeze in ziploc bags for fresh cookies any time.
Thanks for the recipe Leisa.

Bad Dreams

Finances:Damon and I figured out exactly how much our monthly income is and how much we spend on each of our bills. We then made a list of every bill we thought we could lower. I ended the internet service on my phone and saved almost $50 a month! I asked my dr. to double the dosage on my prescription so I can cut each pill in half. That way I am making the same co payment but only every other month. We also decided on a grocery amount for the month. I take that amount out in cash and have to budget carefully so it will last all month. I make a meal plan each week and do our grocery shopping around that so I am not buying things we don't need. We stopped going out to eat and Damon is taking his lunches to work. We also decided to put gas in our cars on Friday and only put a certain amount in. We have to make sure we don't drive any more than needed so our gas can last all week. It's amazing the money we have been able to save by only making a few changes.

ice sculptures

We also froze army men and other small toys in an empty one gallon ice cream container. I gave them hammers and let them hammer out the toys.
